Traffic and Lunch with a Minister of Parliament

January 8, 2010 Posted In India

The back of an autorickshaw

Invited along for a conference on trends in the textile industry. I spent the morning listening to politicians speak regarding export policies in textile. Not exactly the trends I was hoping to hear about. However an invitation to lunch at the bungalow of  the right honorable Minister of Parliament for Tamil Nadu, Dayanidh Maran. M. P. Maran’s position in parliament is as the Minister of Textiles, but to my friend Renu he was just someone she grew-up with. The other fellow along for lunch and I were too intimidated to remember to pass along his business card and me to take a photo of the minister. Therefore no images of the minister or the bugalow. Lunch however was delicious.

The rest of the day was spent in traffic due to Bollywood stars at the car show and camels practicing for an upcomming parade.
