A Determined Line

April 16, 2016 - May 26, 2016
The Narrows
Fall River, MA
Group Exhibitions, Installations

Exhibition Title: A Determined Line

Artists: Heather Bentz, Alyn Carlson, Teresa Cole, Isabel Mattia, Alia Pialtos

Where: The Narrows Center for the Arts, 16 Anawan Street, Fall River, MA

A Determined Line brings together five artists whose diverse mediums, methods of working and artistic output mesh and complement to create a synergistic exhibition. Representing drawing, painting, sculpture, and installation, artists Heather Bentz, Alyn Carlson, Teresa Cole, Isabel Mattia, and Alia Pialtos share their conceptual interpretation and representation of line. Whether it be drawn, scraped, manufactured or a thought process, line is inherent in their work. A Determined Line expands this notion, and represents the artists’ ability to bring clarity to what is often hidden inside—the behind-the-scenes thinking that occurs during making. It speaks to what’s thought about and considered and then which becomes part of the work in the process. This hidden aspect requires push, an emotional, unseen and intangible ability to see an idea through to completion. While the materials and end result are the physical manifestation of the process, content is embedded within.
