Tuesday ended up being my most productive day. In the morning Topo arrived early with more old saris for gluing. Then after a failed attempt at going to the printer on Monday the opportunity finally presented itself. I was escorted to the Kanishha factory, in the hinterlands of nowhere, yet still in the center of Kolkata, where they print the most beautiful block-printed saris. It took awhile to get going because my design had the master printer scratching his head. It was a bit more complicated than I had hoped but after 8 hours we had 3 lengths of 5.5 meters each printed. I was exhausted when I left at 9 PM but it was well work the struggle. And I think the printer really enjoyed the challenge. I have one more length to print and will return on Thursday to finish.
Oh T! These look fantastic. Looking forward to seeing your installation.
